To all Old Fishes Association (OFA) Members

October 2008

Dear Member

We are writing to inform you of some exciting changes that are taking place within the OFA and to let you know that the next edition of the New Hall Times will be coming to you in February 2009.

Alumni relations have become a big part of many schools’ activities, in both the private and maintained sector. Many schools have large departments dedicated solely to this area of work. To date at New Hall, we have been fortunate to have had a volunteer committee, headed by a volunteer Chairperson, who have taken on this work. The committee has been supported by a secretary, from within the school staff, paid to do just five hours work a week. This salary has been met from OFA funds.

We are now delighted to confirm that a new post of OFA Co-ordinator, within the school’s administrative team, has been created. The OFA are fortunate that the first holder of this post, Mrs Libby Searle (nee Knight), is an Old Fish, current member of staff and current parent at New Hall. This new post will enable the OFA to further meet the needs of Old Fishes and maintain that vital link between Old Fishes, the school and the Community. Work is continuing on in the format of an open forum which anyone can attend and your assistance and ideas are very welcome. If you are able to come and share your ideas with Libby, and a core group of the former committee, then please come to New Hall on Monday 17 November at 7.30pm.

We would also be grateful for any recent Old Fish news for the next edition of the newsletter. If you have anything that you would like to share please contact Libby either by phoning the school, writing or emailing (OFA@newhallschool.co.uk) by the end of November.

For more years than I care to remember, Joan Jones has edited this publication in its various forms. Joan has been a vital link from time past to time present. Our sincere thanks go to Joan for keeping us all in touch and for being aware of so many individuals. We do hope that Fish out the News will continue and it is our intention to look at different ways of communicating: electronically, through newsletters, and through reunions. It is in this vein that we request your email addresses so that we can update our system and get news and information to you.

We hope you will bear with us during this time of change, but trust you will see it as a positive one. We look forward to hearing all your news and forwarding it to others.

With best wishes
