U12s progress in Telegraph Tournament

8th Feb 2008

The Under 12 team have qualified for the next phase of the Daily Telegraph Emerging Schools rugby tournament. Their season has gone tremendously well, and they are undefeated in 18 matches. This has made them the current ranked 1 Under 12 team on the www.schoolsrugby.co.uk website.

New Hall School has progressed to the regional finals of this national tournament, and maintained its undefeated record at Under 12 level this term after this Mid and North Essex round at Colchester Rugby Club on Thursday 7th February.

Wins in the group stage against Chelmer Valley High School, Sir Charles Lucas, Philip Morrant, Tendring High School and Clacton Community High School saw the Griffins top their pool. In fact, they did not concede a single try in this phase. The semi-final saw the team pitted against another Chelmsford school, St. John Payne. New Hall dominated the possession in this match and two good tries in the final five minutes of the ten minute match saw them progress to the final. They faced a Honywood School team who had also swept all before them on the way to the final. New Hall was on top for most of the final and went ahead after five minutes. A late breakaway try by Honywood denied the Griffins an outright victory, but both teams will now represent the area in the regional finals of this event which leads to Twickenham.

New Hall scored 150 points and conceded 5 points in their seven matches. The tries came from Darius Roohi (8), Miles Fletcher (5), Luke Pordham (4), Bradley Appleton (4), Ciaran Moore (3), Sam Odell (2), Josh Jones (1), Conor McCaffrey(1), Oliver Osgood (1) and Casey Morgan (1).

New Hall squad: Tom Loomes, Oliver Osgood, Casey Morgan, Conor McCaffrey(Capt), Louis Poynter, Edward Fenton, Darius Roohi, Josh Jones, Ciaran Moore, Miles Fletcher, Luke Pordham, Alex Wood, Sam Odell, Bradley Appleton, Harry Robins

The Under 13 team failed to qualify this year, but despite some influential players being unavailable through illness and injury they had two wins and a draw in their section of the qualifying event.
