New Hall students achieve 100% A*/A grades in sciences
Every GCSE result in Physics, Chemistry and Biology at New Hall is an A*/A grade this year. Katherine Jeffrey, Principal, said: “New Hall continues its tradition of excellence in science and we encourage many of our students to progress to science A Levels and degree courses. We are keen to challenge the national trend in which fewer students each year choose science options. We believe students need inspirational science teachers who can communicate the importance of these subjects for the future.”

4 students achieve A*/A grades up to 3 years early
As part of the Gifted and Talented programme at New Hall, a number of students take A Level and GCSE examinations early. 4 younger students have achieved an A*/A grade at GCSE:

This follows last week’s record A Level results at New Hall – a bumper year of top grades
Last week, records were also broken when the first co-educational Sixth Form cohort in New Hall’s 366-year history achieved the school’s best ever A Level results. A record 47% of grades were at the top grade A, up from 37% in 2007. 12 candidates achieved 3, 4 or 5 A grades at A2 Level and one student achieved 5As and 1B, winning his place at Cambridge University. In a remarkable total of 81 modules, students received a perfect score of 100%. 78% of grades were at the top grades A or B and 94% of grades were at A-C; these were all records for New Hall students. There was a 100% success rate overall.

New Hall’s ‘Diamond’ Model for Academic Success
New Hall was one of the first girls’ schools nationally to expand by establishing a Boys’ Division for 11-16 year olds and a large co-educational Sixth Form. The doors of the former girls’ convent school opened to senior boys in 2006 and a fourth and fifth Boarding House have now been successfully established for boys.
New Hall’s rare ‘diamond’ model structure enables boys and girls to be taught separately for five years, until the end of the GCSE courses. Principal, Katherine Jeffrey, said: “From the outset the initiative to educate senior boys and yet to continue the tradition of single-sex teaching met with overwhelming support. The school roll reaches 950 this September. The move has enhanced the school in so many ways and now these exceptional GCSE and A Level results are evidence that the academic performance has continued with its year-on-year improvement”.
